Time to Cozy Up to the Fireplace

I’m not sure how the weather is in your part of the world, but here in North Carolina, fall is officially here! The leaves have changed and the temperature has dropped meaning that the time has come to cozy up on the couch in front of the fire. Fireplaces are a great element in any space and can be addressed in many different ways. {source}

 If your fireplace is in your main living room, where you and your family spend most of your time, you might choose to let your t.v. occupy the space above. This way, even though both the television and fireplace are major components, since they are on the same wall they can be treated as the same focal point which will allow for greater ease in your room’s furniture layout.  {source}

Art Takes Center Stage Above Mantel

Art is another popular candidate for that coveted position above the mantel, or in this case a lack thereof. Just make sure the proportions of your piece are correct and that it is hung at the right height. {source} Do you let your hearth stand on its own or do you dress it up with a decorative screen? {source}

Alternatives Uses in Warm Climates

If you live some place where it doesn’t get too cold you might not find yourself lighting up the fire too often. In that case, there are other ways to utilize the space. Try giving a sculpture a home there. It will frame the piece like art on the wall. {source}

Here are some of my favorite fireplace spaces…from traditional to modern and even outdoor! {Sources: here, here, here, here, here, here}
Something I’ve noticed with these traditional spaces above is that they are almost all symmetrical! Symmetry is easily achieved in spaces with fireplaces because everything is based on this strong focal point. This makes for a powerful statement so you have to address it right!  {Sources: here, here, here, here, here, here}

Dramatic Modern Fireplaces

How fun are these cool modern fireplaces?! Impressive and attention magnets. Talk about dramatic.  {Sources: here, here, here, here, here, here}. Your house’s living room isn’t the only space that is perfect for a fireplace! Try adding one to your outdoor living “room”. You can enjoy this one year round!  {Sources: herehere, here, herehere, here}

So regardless of  where your ideal fireplace is, make it look great… and stay warm!
